ALU  KERAU (Potatoes & Green peas) - A Nepali Snack

Alu Kerau (Potatoes and Green Peas) is one of the better known dishes of Nepali cuisine. This is a favorite cuisine at various occasions ranging from a family picnic to a wedding buffet. This goes well with any types of other snacks.

INGREDIENTS:

Potatoes

Chopped tomato

Cloves minced garlic

Onion, chopped

Oil

Salt

Garam masala ( also can be a mixture of cumin powder and coriander )

Tumeric

1/2

tsp

Green coriander (chopped)

1/2

cup

Water

Chopped green chilli

 

 

Note: tbsp=table spoon, and tsp = tea spoon

 

PROCEDURES:

Boil or microwave the potatoes until they are soft, then chop into the pieces of desired shape.

In a heavy frying pan, heat the oil over low heat.

Add onion and garlic and cook till light brown.

Add tomato, peas and all spices.

Cook for 5 minutes, continually stirring to form a well blended sauce.

Add potatoes and stir for a minute to cover with sauce.

Add water and cook in a medium heat for 5 more minutes.

Lower the heat, add chopped green coriander and cook another few minutes at the end.

Taste for salt and spices, and add red chilli powder for desired hotness.
